Eastern Regional 2018 May Day Quiz

HSWU PARTICIPANTS IN MAIDEN YOUNG WORKERS QUIZ By C.F. Tetteh Koforidua

It was an atmosphere of mixed feelings, amidst dropped jaws and delight in a closely contested quiz at the GNAT Hall in Koforidua, as thirteen unions and labour centers looked horns in the maiden annual Young Workers May Day Quiz 2018.

In a competition that witnessed a slow build up, the contestants made it a rather hilarious an experience as the audience had value for their money. According to the organizers, the Regional Youth Council of TUC (Ghana), the rationale behind the quiz was to engage young workers in an intellectual discourse that challenges young people to endeavor to know more about their respective unions. In the words of the Regional Youth Chairman, Brother Citizen Francis Tetteh, they used the opportunity to also celebrate young workers for their diverse contributions to the labour front in the region.

Some unions and labour centers that participated in the quiz were; TEWU, HSWU, GNAT, ICU, LGWU, PSWU, JUSAG, PUWU, GAWU, TUWAG, CCT, CBMWU & UNICOF. Although he did not place first, Brother Sixtus expressed his delight in the way the contest was conducted, with the pledge that, come next year, it will be a done deal for him. The quiz ended with GNAT emerging as the winner.

First runner-up was TEWU and ICU second runner-up. All participants received certificates of participation. In her closing remarks, the Regional Secretary of TUC (Ghana), Mrs. Phyllis Agyemang, expressed gratitude to the Regional Chairpersons and Secretaries for their support and called for more of such in the future.
